Using map apps safely
Tips for using walking map apps safely
Use it for inspiration
Corroborate/check it against other maps and sources of information
Take a paper map if going somewhere rural, with poor signal or somewhere you don't know, tell someone where you're going, take a charged phone and battery pack
Don't rely on your phone for navigation (have a back-up)
Know how to read a map (navigation skills)
Have bailout options. What will you do if you become tired or your baby doesn't manage the distance? What are your alternative routes?
Remember:
Being able to follow a digital route is not a replacement for being able to read a map and navigate yourself to safety.
